The gate of the transistor is connected to the word-line (Word i), and its drain (source) is connected to the bit-line (Bit j). Note that the bit-line has a capacitance CB much larger than the cell capacitance Cs. During a read cycle, the bit-line is always pre-charged to 0.5VDD volts.
